Roger A. Sevigny, Commissioner of the New Hampshire Insurance Department To Speak at Meet the Commissioners Series.
March 2007 - Concord, NH:
PROGRAM CONTACT: Douglas Chamberlain, Sulloway & Hollis, 603-224-2341.
Roger A. Sevigny, Commissioner of the N.H. Insurance Department, will be speaking on the “State of the Insurance Market” on Thursday, March 8 as part of a series of business leaders’ forums co-sponsored by Sulloway & Hollis, P.L.L.C and the Greater Concord Area Chamber of Commerce.
Commissioner Sevigny will make brief remarks and answer questions at the Meet the Commissioners program to be held on March 8 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Sulloway & Hollis law offices, located at 29 School Street in Concord.
The Commissioner will address the interplay between federal and state regulation of insurance. Some in Congress have recently proposed federal regulation of an industry that has so far been regulated almost entirely by states. Supporters compare the proposal to the dual system of bank regulation that allows banks to do business under either a federal or state charter. Speaking to the media in 2006, Commissioner Sevigny characterized that comparison as misleading. Sevigny said that insurance regulation has dramatically different complexities than banking, making a valid comparison difficult.
Douglas Chamberlain, chair of the Business Group at the Sulloway & Hollis law firm, who helped organize the Meet the Commissioners forums, noted, “insurance is now being sold through countless channels of commerce including banks and trade associations.” Chamberlain added, “as local business leaders confront expanding markets and opportunities to serve their customers, Commissioner Sevigny’s appearance at the Meet the Commissioners forum gives those leaders the chance to meet with the high-level decision makers who regulate those markets.”
Future Meet the Commissioners programs will include Thomas Burack, Commissioner of Environmental Services, who is scheduled to appear on April 12.
The program is open to the public without charge; however, seating is limited. To RSVP, please contact rsvp@sulloway.com or call 603-223-2896.
