November 2006 - Concord, NH:
PROGRAM CONTACT: Douglas Chamberlain, Sulloway & Hollis, 603-224-2341.

Employment Security Commissioner Brothers to Discuss Labor Market Trends.

New Hampshire Department of Employment Security Commissioner Richard S. Brothers will provide insights on labor market trends in the Granite State on Thursday, Nov. 9 in the second of a series of business leaders’ forums co-sponsored by Sulloway & Hollis, P.L.L.C, and the Greater Concord Area Chamber of Commerce.

Commissioner Brothers will make brief remarks and answer questions at the Meet the Commissioners program held Nov. 9 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., in The Gallery at the Sulloway & Hollis law offices, 29 School Street, Concord.

Commissioner Brothers will provide an overview of the Department of Employment Security, and highlight its services to assist employers in recruiting and retaining workers. He will discuss the Department’s labor market information-gathering process that provides useful insights into the state’s economic future. The Commissioner will also field questions about the administration of unemployment benefits and the collection of the tax which funds these payments.

“The Department of Employment Security – because of its responsibilities and connections to employers-- is in a unique position to gauge business activity and project economic trends,” said Douglas Chamberlain, chair of the Business Group at the Sulloway & Hollis law firm, who helped organize the Meet the Commissioners forums. “We are looking forward to hearing Commissioner Brothers’ insights on our state’s economy.”

“These programs also provide an opportunity for the business community to interact with high-level people in our state government and to have their questions answered on topics of immediate interest,” Chamberlain added.

Commissioner Brothers, a former state legislator and executive in the healthcare and finance industries, was appointed to the post in December, 2004.

In the first Meet the Commissioners program, held Nov. 12, G. Phillip Blatsos, Commissioner of the Department of Revenue Administration, addressed business leaders on a variety of topics, including state tax enforcement and revenue trends. All of the programs are free, although attendees are requested to RSVP.

The Meet the Commissioners series, taking place on the second Thursday of each month, runs through March, 2007. Transportation Commissioner Carol Murray will be the featured speaker on Thursday, Dec. 14. Also scheduled are: George N. Copadis, Commissioner, Department of Labor (Jan. 11); George Bald, Commissioner of Economic Development (Feb. 8); and Roger A. Sevigny, Commissioner of the Insurance Department (March 8).

“We are pleased to partner with the Greater Concord Area Chamber of Commerce in organizing these informational programs,” said Chamberlain. “We hope that the business community finds them informative and a useful networking opportunity.”

The program is free, but limited seating is available. To RSVP, please send a message to RSVP@sulloway.com or call (603) 223-2896.
