Transportation Commissioner Carol Murray Discusses Paths to the Future.
Your Questions on Highways and Their Impact on Growth Answered at Meet the Commissioners Forum Dec. 14 in Concord.
New Hampshire Department of Transportation Commissioner Carol Murray will discuss timely topics regarding New Hampshire’s transportation infrastructure and prospects for its future at a breakfast forum Thursday, Dec. 14 in Concord.
Murray is the third state department head to participate in a continuing series of business leaders’ forums co-sponsored by Sulloway & Hollis, P.L.L.C, and the Greater Concord Area Chamber of Commerce.
Commissioner Murray will make brief remarks and answer questions at the Meet the Commissioners program held Dec. 14 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., in The Gallery at the Sulloway & Hollis law offices, 29 School Street, Concord.
Commissioner Murray will discuss the role of the Department of Transportation, highlighting some of its major projects and plans, particularly as they affect citizens and businesses in the greater Concord area. In particular, she is expected to discuss the planning of improvements to Interstate 93, both for the stretch between Bow and Concord and the major widening of the highway between Salem and Manchester. The NH Department of Transportation has been recognized nationally for its processes for incorporating citizen input in transportation planning – a process known as “context-centered planning.”
Commissioner Murray was appointed to head the department in 2001. She had been Assistant Commissioner and Chief Engineer since 1996, and had worked her way up through the ranks of DOT since her graduation from the University of New Hampshire in 1978 with a degree in civil engineering. She joined a surveying crew for what has then known as the Department of Public Works & Highways, and held a number of key positions in her more than two decades with the department.
“Transportation is an integral part of our daily lives – whether we are talking about the performance of snowplows affecting our daily commute, or the long-range impact on the community of a highway widening or the creation of an exit,” said Douglas Chamberlain, chair of the Business Group at the Sulloway & Hollis law firm, who helped organize the Meet the Commissioners forums. “Commissioner Murray is an excellent planner and an excellent communicator. With many timely transportation issues at hand, this will be an important conversation for Concord area business leaders.”
The Meet the Commissioners program, occurring monthly, has already featured Phillip Blatsos, Commissioner of the Department of Revenue Administration and Richard Brothers, Commissioner of the Department of Employment Security.
