Fred
L. Potter concentrates his practice in the areas of insurance regulatory,
corporate
governance (in both profit and non-profit sectors), commercial finance and transactional (including M&A) matters. He also has expertise in legal issues involving computer and software companies.
Mr. Potter is active in the New Hampshire Bar Association, having served as President in 1986-1987. He also has led several cooperative bench/bar efforts to apply computer and communications technology to improve the practice of law. Mr. Potter received the national Award of Excellence (Management) from the Institute for Certification of Computer Professionals. He is AV rated in Martindale-Hubbell and has been listed in Who’s Who in Insurance and The Best Lawyers in America (Corporate Law).
Mr. Potter was President of Christian Mutual Life Insurance Company from 1980 to 1996, and has served as a board member or key advisor to several business corporations both privately and publicly held. He is a trustee of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and Chair of its Finance Committee. Mr. Potter also serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Concord Christian Academy, a complete Christian pre-school through high school accredited educational community offering unique multi-cultural private day school education to central New Hampshire families on an affordable basis.
Mr. Potter is the managing member of CML Administrators, an organization which specializes in serving not-for-profit organizations. Through CML, Mr. Potter served as the founding Executive Director of the New Hampshire Individual Health Plan (which offers health insurance to all medically-uninsured New Hampshire residents) and of the New Hampshire Vaccine Association (which provides funding so that 100% of New Hampshire children have access to all medically-recommended vaccines, without charge). Fred, working beside his wife Mertie, regularly serves on foreign medical mission service teams to third-world countries.
Mr. Potter graduated with honors from Harvard University in 1970 with an undergraduate major in economics. He continued in graduate studies at Harvard to earn an MBA in 1972, with second year honors. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School in 1975 and was elected to the Order of the Coif, the national law student honor society.
