Building A Family Through Adoption
The decision to build or add to your family through adoption is made from the heart. We will help you navigate the complex process of adoption whether you choose a private placement adoption, agency adoption, or step-parent adoption. We will work with you so that you fully understand and comply with the law, and legally secure your parental rights.
Expectant Parents Considering Adoption
The decision to place a child for adoption is a tremendously difficult one. We will help you understand the laws in NH to place your child for adoption, file the legal paperwork to do so, and even work with you to identify an appropriate adoptive family if needed.
PRIVATE PLACEMENT ADOPTION
In a private placement adoption, the birth mother places the child directly with the adoptive parents (as opposed to through an agency). We work with adoptive parents in private placement adoptions to file your adoption petition, navigate the requirements of the Interstate Compact for the Placement of Children (which prohibits traveling across state lines with an adopted child until both the sending and receiving State sign off on the travel), and legally finalize your adoption.
We work closely with licensed child-placing agencies to file your adoption petition, navigate the requirements of the Interstate Compact for the Placement of Children (which prohibits travelling across state lines with an adopted child until both the sending and receiving State sign off on the travel), and legally finalize your adoption.
A stepparent or second-parent adoption is when the spouse of one of the biological parents adopts the child. This is an excellent way to provide legal protections and certainty to a parent-child relationship when that child is your partner’s biological child. We’ll guide your family through all of the necessary forms, education and legal issues.
Adoption of children by lesbian, gay, bisexual, and/or transgender (LGBT) persons and may be in any of the following forms:
- Joint Adoption – When a same-sex married couple jointly adopts a child.
- Step-parent Adoption – When one partner of a married same-sex couple adopts the other partner’s biological or adopted child.
- Single-parent Adoption – When a single LGBT person adopts a child.
We support the LGBT community and want all prospective parents to succeed in their hopes of starting or continuing a family through adoption.
