David W. Johnston is a member at Sulloway & Hollis and Co-Chair of the firm’s Litigation Practice Group. One of the firm’s most experienced civil litigators, Dave has tried dozens of civil cases before juries and judges in state and federal courts. He also has extensive appellate experience, having briefed or argued more than 20 cases before the New Hampshire Supreme Court. Dave’s 30 years of practice allows him to provide his insurance, commercial, and individual clients the kind of outstanding representation that only comes with the breadth and depth of experience that lawyers like Dave possess.

Dave regularly represents clients in cases involving liquor liability/DRAM shop claims, transportation accidents or losses, D&O claims, defamation suits, commercial and contract disputes, wrongful death claims, product liability litigation and property losses.

While Dave is a results-driven and tenacious advocate for his clients, he always maintains his good humor and approachability. These attributes have earned Dave the respect of his clients and peers alike. He has repeatedly achieved an AV Preeminent® rating for Legal Abilities and Ethical Standards from Martindale-Hubbell based on multiple reviews provided by other lawyers, judges, and clients. His peers have also selected Dave for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® since 2018.

Dave is a member and past State Representative of DRI – The Voice of the Defense Bar, a member of the Tri-State Defense Lawyers Association, a member of the Transportation Lawyers Association, and a member of the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel.

A proud veteran, Dave served as a Surface Warfare Officer in the United States Navy. He and his family enjoy almost anything done outdoors –  snowboarding, cross-country skiing, biking, boating, hiking, and even yard work… sometimes. Case in point: Dave has hiked all 48 of New Hampshire’s 4,000+ foot peaks – some multiple times.
