Jay Surdukowski Publishes Op-Ed on Resolving Inaugural Committee Conflict of Interest Questions

Jay Surdukowski, a partner in the Firm’s Concord office, published an op-ed outlining the law applicable to self-dealing by board members of 501 (c)(4) non-profit corporations in light of ongoing attention to the activities of the Sununu Inaugural Committee.  Since December, the Union Leader and New Hampshire Public Radio have been inquiring into more than $165,000 paid by the Inaugural Committee to Governor Chris Sununu and members of the Governor’s family and close associates.

The piece advocates three investigative inquiries to ascertain with finality whether the transactions were lawful or not under state charitable laws and federal IRS law which prescribe detailed measures to vet conflicts of interest so tax-exempt organizations will spend funds ethically.

The op-ed was published in the Union Leader, Concord Monitor, Keene Sentinel, Foster’s Daily Democrat, and Seacoast Online over the May 4-5 weekend.
